Yesterday I got in some quality Exploring time around Tucson. I am always amazed at how many wonders this area really has. And my personal list of places locally to Explore grows almost daily. I have preciously visited many of these areas before---and find it much more enjoyable to point out all the sights I have checked out --while driving around town. I easily find it much more enjoyable than for the people in the car I am pointing the sights out too. :) That said I have been to the mission several times before but wanted to see the effects the recent vandals had on this amazing and sacred sight. Some one recently spray painted 666 and such all over the walls. Luckily no evidence of any of this crap could be seen. Here are some thoughts and pictures from a past visit to the sight: http://exarizonagobensonbobcats.blogspot.com/2014/07/more-from-tucson.html
Arriving at the sight I had forgotten it was a Sunday
and was a little surprised at how many people were around.
I have also never been here when the shops and vendors were all open for business.
From up on the mountain top.
A rare cloudy day in Tucson cooled the temperatures off some.
When I lived in Oregon and Washington state
we dreamed of sunny days.
Although they also made us squint the instant we went outside.
Here I dream of cloudy days and the upcoming monsoon season.
Even with all the clouds it is definitely spring time.
Back side views
This is also the first time I have visited that the gift shop and museum were also open.
Time to streacth my legs up the mountain side.
As I said the above link has many more pictures from this amazing mission.
Look close---little buddy I found/met on the way out.
I soon found myself near the airport on the rail road tracks.
I have many such pictures.
Because I know few things better on a spring or summer day
than an endless stretch of tracks.
**editors note---this is not approved by anyone on the rail road crew or by this author. But Dang is it fun and can often lead to some great Exploring!
I tried to get close enough to get a decent picture of the large control tower with
Tucson all the way down the side, but never made it that far.
Tucson all the way down the side, but never made it that far.
Just past the rail road tracks near the Pima aviation school.
Extra neat building I came across.
Would love to Explore the inside of this place.
Off the front is an awning made out of the front of an airplane,
but a local cop was lingering/parked here and I feared I already looked suspicious enough on this day.
To give bearings I am almost right across from The Desert Diamond Casino at this point.
You can just see the large control tower in the way back ground of the above picture.
Sorry for all the pictures
I just think this building is pretty neat.
It is also for lease....
I snuck a peek into an open door
and was very disappointed to just spot a fork lift and a very very large garage space for this work truck.
Sign spotted on the way home.
Cheers!!
Once I have a vehicle to call my own again the Exploring will come more often.
And the trips will take us further down the great winding roads of Arizona!
As always
**Happy Trails!!**
